Get To Know Our New COO, Cheretta Clerkley
Q: Why is Generation Hope’s mission important to you?
A: Generation Hope’s mission resonates deeply with me because it embodies the transformative power of education and the potential of every person to reach for their goals, no matter the circumstances. I believe in creating opportunities for those who face barriers to success, and Generation Hope champions that cause by supporting teen parents in their pursuit of education. This mission is not just about providing financial assistance; it’s about fostering resilience, empowerment, and hope for a brighter future. Every Scholar we support is a testament to the strength of the human spirit, and I am committed to ensuring that they have the resources they need to thrive.
Q: What are some of the things that you are looking forward to with Generation Hope this year?
A: This year, I am particularly excited about expanding our mentorship programs and strengthening our community partnerships. I look forward to seeing our Scholars connect with mentors who can provide guidance and support, helping them navigate their educational journeys. Additionally, we are launching new initiatives aimed at enhancing mental health and wellness resources for our Scholars, which I believe is crucial for their success. A key focus will also be finding new sponsors to help us expand our reach and ensure that we continue to grow our operational infrastructure. This support will enable us to sustain and enhance the incredible work Generation Hope does. I am also eager to celebrate the achievements of our alumni and see how they continue to give back to our community.
Q: How do you define success for Generation Hope, beyond the numbers?
A: While metrics like graduation rates and job placements are important, I define success for Generation Hope in terms of the personal growth and resilience of our Scholars, as well as the professional development of our staff. Success is seeing a Scholar gain confidence, develop a strong support network, and realize their potential to positively impact their families and communities. It’s also about fostering an environment where our staff can grow alongside our Scholars, enhancing their skills and commitment to our mission. When both our Scholars and staff feel empowered to dream big and pursue their goals, we know we are making a meaningful difference. It’s about the stories of transformation and the relationships built along the way that truly define our success.
Q: Outside of work, what is a hobby or passion of yours that might surprise the team?
A: Outside of work, you might be surprised to learn that I have a serious love for interior design! There’s just something about transforming a space that gets my creative juices flowing. Whether it’s rearranging furniture for a fresh look or adding some quirky decor, I’m all in! And when I’m not channeling my inner designer, you can find me rocking out at concerts—especially when Beyoncé is in town! There’s nothing like the energy of a live show, and let’s be honest, who doesn’t love belting out “Alien Superstar” with thousands of other fans? So, whether I’m planning the perfect room or dancing like nobody’s watching, I’m all about bringing a little flair and fun into life!
Q: What message would you like to share with Generation Hope Scholars, alumni, and families?
A: To all our Scholars, alumni, and families, I want to emphasize that you are not alone on this journey. Every step you take towards your goals is a testament to your strength and determination. Remember that challenges are part of the process, and it’s okay to ask for support when you need it. We are here for you, cheering you on every step of the way, and we believe in your potential to create a brighter future for yourselves and your communities.
